RCMP in Thompson are investigating what appears to be a homicide. Officers were dispatched to a home Thursday afternoon to look into a complaint of an unresponsive woman inside the residence. When they got there, they found a dead female. Although the cause of death has not been determined, RCMP say they are treating it as a homicide. An autopsy is scheduled to take place in Winnipeg on Friday.

Herman Holla registered his campaign for the inner-city ward Thursday afternoon.
It's not Holla's first run at a council seat...
In 1989, he ran against Glen Murray and Sam Katz for the Fort Rouge council seat. In 1998, he challenged Harvey Smith in Daniel McIntyre.
Transcona's Russ Wyatt and Dan Vandal of St. Boniface are the only remaining incumbent's in this civic election landscape.
Citizens go to the polls October 27.

A 17 year old youth is charged with robbery with a weapon in connection with an incident on Portage Avenue downtown on Tuesday.
At approximately 7:00 p.m. a group of males were in the area of the 300 block of Portage Avenue, when a 17 year old male suspect began arguing with a 47 year old male.
The dispute escalated to the point where the accused pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the upper body. He then stole his backpack. Police in the area arrested the suspect in the area shortly after. The victim's condition in hospital has since been upgraded from critical to stable condition.

Hundreds of fans lined up in Regina to get their hands on one of three million Saskatchewan Roughrider loonies unveiled by the Royal Canadian Mint. The loonie, with a giant ``S'' on one side, was minted to help the football club celebrate its 100th anniversary. James Love, chairman of the board of the mint, jokes that he thinks fans will be delighted to get the coin even if it was minted in Winnipeg, which is home to the Blue Bombers. Love says he doubts the coins will see much circulation as fans pocket the collectible. The Riders are only the second team to get centennial loonies after the mint introduced a one dollar coin to mark the Montreal Canadiens 100th anniversary last year.

The owner of a construction company where a teenage worker was killed by burning asphalt is facing more than 2-dozen new charges. Gerald Shepell is charged with 29 counts under the Workplace Health and Safety Act. In July, 2008, a 15-year-old boy working for Interlake Paving was buried in asphalt while working in Stony Mountain. Court documents show among the charges are eight counts of failing to ensure the safety, health, and welfare of workers. Shepell was earlier charged under the province's Employment Standards Code allegedly employing the teen and another Stony Mountain youth in 2008. His next court appearance is October 7th.

A man accused of endangering aircraft Wednesday at Winnipeg's airport has been identified by police. 23 year old Michael Doss of Montreal was arrested Wednesday morning after a truck had been stolen from 17 Wing and driven down an active runway at the airport. Doss has been detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
A home on Lynbrook Drive in Charleswood has been busted for a marijuana grow operation. The house in the 200 block was hit yesterday by the Drug unit and the Tactical Support team. The value of marijuana seized was 100 thousand dollars. A 44 year old man was charged and released.

A warning for boaters thinking of taking to the Red near Lockport this weekend. Public Works and Government Services Canada says the current is fast and volatile. A spokesman says officials began removing curtains from the dam earlier today, so people should be cautious navigating. The waters below the lock and dam are particularly hazardous where the flow is over the sill. Boaters are asked to stay away from that area.

The Assinniboine Park Zoo is the home to a pair of brand new baby Red Pandas. The Red Pandas, which resemble raccoons were born in June but haven't been on display because of renovations to their exhibit space. There are only 8,000 surviving Red Pandas in the Himalayas of China and adjacent countries. Zoo Curator Dr. Bob Wrigley says the newborns will be placed in other zoos as soon as they are weaned.

Another 20 to 40mm of rain fell across Southern Manitoba Wednesday night. Sandra Masse of Environment Canada tells CJOB... it's been a very, very wet summer:
Masse says Winnipeg typically gets 52mm of rain in September. Here it is September 2nd, and we've already had more than half of that.
