The early returns from the first ever survey on concussions in Manitoba Amateur Hockey show a "surprising" rate of incidents, according to Dr. Jeff Leiter of the Pan Am Clinic.
A total of 15,000 surveys were sent out at the beginning of the summer to players between the ages of 13-17, parents, and coaches. In an exclusive interview with CJOB, Dr. Leiter says 46% of the 700 responses to date have confirmed suffering concussions, or concussion related symptoms.
The Pan Am Clinic Foundation and the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation helped fund the survey, in collaboration with Hockey Manitoba and the University of Manitoba.
