CJOB's Robert Holland reporting
8/9/2012
As part of the RCMP’s recruiting efforts, Northwest Region Recruiting in partnership with the RCMP Academy, "Depot" Division, is sending 32 high-school students from across three provinces and two territories to the second annual youth camp for one week in August.
This year’s Camp was doubled in size to include students from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.
The students were selected based on academic achievement and their interest in a career in policing. They will learn what it’s like to be a police officer in training through observation of, and participation in, activities including drill, driver simulation training, firearms, and tours of the RCMP Academy and the RCMP Heritage Centre.
The 32 students selected for the Depot Youth Camp are reflective of the typical RCMP cadet troops, representing the Canadian mosaic. The camp runs from August 13 through August 17, 2012.
