Manitoba Health has concluded that it is necessary to begin a mosquito spraying program in Portage La Prairie because of the emergence of Culex Tarsalis mosquitoes that can carry the West Nile Virus.
Officials say Portage has a high population on infected mosquitoes. There have already been two cases in Manitoba where adults who gave blood tested positive for West Nile.
