The number of women who received an epidural before giving birth varies greatly by province, and many Manitoba women aren't getting them. According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information, Manitoba's epidural rate was low at about 38 per cent in 2010-2011 - that's compared to 70 per cent in Quebec. Epidural rates have soared Canada-wide over the past few years. Manitoba was the only province to see a decrease in rates. Manitoba also has one of the lowest C-section and assisted birth rates.
