The Manitoba government is contemplating changes in the sale and use of cosmetic lawn and turf pesticides. Some jurisdictions have restricted their use particularly in areas where people may be exposed. The province is inviting opinions on the issue. The RM of Portage la Prairie has already weighed in. The council says pesticides are needed to control weeds and insects on farms and properities in the RM. One councillor says while there are organic methods to control weeds, they have not proven to be as effective.
