The RCMP is consolidating its Forensic Lab services from six to three sites. The lab in Winnipeg is being discontinued. In a release from the police agency, the RCMP says it's committed to delivering high quality forensic services. The current labs in six cities vary in size and specialization. The consolidation is expected to save 3.5 million dollars a year, and will improve efficiency, eliminate redundancy, and reduce infrastructure costs such as building maintenance. While the Winnipeg lab is being dropped, services will continue in Vancouver, Edmonton and Ottawa.
