As of Thursday Vince Li was allowed to start his escorted trips from the Selkirk Mental Health hospital..
Li has been a patient at the facility since the summer of 2008. He was initially in a locked ward and then permitted escorted walks on the unfenced grounds of the hospital.
Last week the Criminal Code Review board, in a controversial decision, cleared Li to take 30 minute escorted trips on the streets of Selkirk. The duration of the trips will eventually increase to full days.
Li was found not criminally responsible for the brutal murder of Tim McLean on a Greyhound Bus in 2008..
