Tornado sightings and power outages in South Manitoba
CJOB News Team reporting
5/15/2012

A powerful thunderstorm system  moved through Southern Manitoba  Monday night   resulting in brief heavy downpours,    high wind causing blowing dust   that  resulted in near zero visibility in areas near Carman and South of Morris and  also resulted in   numerous power outages  in a number of communities..

Anthony Koop of Manitoba Hydro  says there were power disruptions  to parts  of  Dauphin, Portage la Prairie,  Selkirk,  Stonewall,  Beausejour,    Carman  and  Steinbach..

And He says  135 customers in Saint Ambrose, North of Portage,   won't get their power back until late Tuesday morning..   He says  nine hydro poles  feeding that community were on fire  Monday  night   the result of a grass fire in the area...    Crews were not able to get into the area  to fix the line  because of the fire.

James Cummin of Environment Canada   told CJOB there were   even sightings of  tornadoes near Elie and Plum Coulee  and possibly a third sighting..

Meantime,  high wind was  blamed for a semi rollover on Highway 3  near Oakbluff around  4:15  Monday afternoon.    RCMP say the rollover closed the route for about an hour..

The truck driver was not seriously   injured..
