A powerful thunderstorm system moved through Southern Manitoba Monday night resulting in brief heavy downpours, high wind causing blowing dust that resulted in near zero visibility in areas near Carman and South of Morris and also resulted in numerous power outages in a number of communities..
Anthony Koop of Manitoba Hydro says there were power disruptions to parts of Dauphin, Portage la Prairie, Selkirk, Stonewall, Beausejour, Carman and Steinbach..
And He says 135 customers in Saint Ambrose, North of Portage, won't get their power back until late Tuesday morning.. He says nine hydro poles feeding that community were on fire Monday night the result of a grass fire in the area... Crews were not able to get into the area to fix the line because of the fire.
James Cummin of Environment Canada told CJOB there were even sightings of tornadoes near Elie and Plum Coulee and possibly a third sighting..
Meantime, high wind was blamed for a semi rollover on Highway 3 near Oakbluff around 4:15 Monday afternoon. RCMP say the rollover closed the route for about an hour..
The truck driver was not seriously injured..
