Counterfit goods siezed from four Winnipeg merchants (Photo courtest of the RCMP)
RCMP have seized counterfeit goods at two stores at The Forks, one at the St. Vital Centre and another at Portage Place.
Among the items are those with trademarks belonging to Nintendo, John Deere, Hello Kitty, Angry Bird, the National Hockey League, DC Shoes, Hasbro, Xbox, Quicksilver, Paul Frank, Sesame Street, Transformers and Alvin and the Chipmunks. All have been seized pertaining to an ongoing police investigation under the Copyright, Trademark and Textile Labeling Acts.
RCMP Corporal John Montgomery says investigators have been working with the companies to identify the stores selling the counterfeit products. He says they're being sold for the regular retail price, and sometimes even higher and tells CJOB the quality of the items varies wildly.
He says the value of the good seized is around $70,000 and that so far, no charges have been laid.
