UPDATED: Fire in Winnipeg's Assiniboine Forest off Shaftsbury
CJOB News Team reporting
4/26/2012

Winnipeg Police are re-directing traffic at Grant and Shaftsbury following a report of a fire nearby in some brush just off Shaftsbury Boulevard.

The fire is in the middle of some brush making access an issue for the Winnipeg Fire-Paramedic Service.  Smoke from the fire can be seen from some distance away.

CJOB's Keith McCullough is there.

Fire crews remain on scene behind the Canadian Mennonite University battling what is largely a grass fire.  CJOB was told that the fire is largely moving too quickly to ignite any of the standing trees in the area.

WFPS Platoon Chief Albert Sigfusson tells CJOB the wind and the terrain have made putting it out a challenge, but they're finally getting it under control.

There are no injuries nor damage to properties.  The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Crews may let the fire burn right up to the road along Shaftsbury so that road remains closed between Grant and Wilkes.
