The cause of the fire on McMillan Avenue early Tuesday morning has been deemed to be careless disposal of smoking materials.
The Office of the Fire Commissioner wants to remind everyone of the need to properly dispose of cigarettes in a fireproof container, and not potted plants, especially if they have peat moss in the pots as peat can catch fire.
The fire caused a combined $1-million damage to two homes. There were no serious injuries.
