Bill McDonald of the Winnipeg Humane Society calls the move by U.S. food corporations towards more humane treatment of animals a game changer.
Burger King says all its eggs and pork will come from cage-free chickens and pigs by 2017.
McDonald says that's huge.
Burger King has become the latest U.S. food corporation to raise the bar in an effort to appeal to the rising consumer demand for more humanely produced fare.
Manitoba Pork Council Chair Karl Kynoch says the move by Burger King is jumping the gun.
Kynoch says the council is doing research on the issue as we speak. He says as it stands now, over 95% of animals in Manitoba are raised without confinement.
He also says all the bacon Burger King uses already comes from animals in open-free pens.
