Hundreds help to clean up Winnipeg's downtown
CJOB News Team reporting
4/21/2012

Over 400 business and community members took over the downtown today Friday for the Downtown BIZ’s 7th annual Earth Day Clean-up, in honour of National Earth Day.

The cleanup covered the area from Higgins Avenue and Main Street all the way south to Carlton Street. Volunteers picked up about 1,600 lbs (730 kg) of litter and garbage.

Downtown business workers and residents joined the BIZ’s Metro Enviro-Team and staff at the Thunderbird House (715 Main Street) and Japanese Gardens (165 Carlton Street) to pick-up litter  so  downtown streets would be clean and vibrant.

The event is part of the BIZ’s overall efforts to clean downtown, which sees members of the Metro Enviro-Team vacuuming up litter, removing graffiti, removing posters, power washing bus shelters and sweeping sidewalks.
