Surrey’s Fire Chief is asking Health Canada to tell him the locations of licensed marijuana grow ops -- but the ministry refuses.
Chief Len Gerris is upset they won't reveal the information, saying legal grow ops are just as dangerous as illegal operations.
According to Garris "out of the nine that we discovered four of them, the electrical inspector on our team disconnected power immediately because of the jerry-rigging of the equipment. The remaining five required significant upgrades and none of them met the zoning requirements."
Gerris says everyone should be concerned about the safety hazard -- since your neighbour could be using improvised, high-wattage systems to grow 200 plants in a single house.
One caller to the World Today identified himself as a Health Canada licensed grower and told Jon McComb that he fears if the information is released it might end up in the wrong hands.

The provincial government seems poised to move ahead with several new regulations meant to improve motorcycle safety, but the biking community itself is not impressed.
The BC coroner's service is trying to reverse a grim trend--a 76% increase in motorbike fatalities in the last nine years.
It recommends a graduated licensing program, new helmet standards, a review of training programs, and limits on the size of bikes for new riders.
But Adele Tompkins with the BC Coalition of Motorcyclists says the changes are mostly public relations.
Tompkins wants more of an onus on training of bikers and car drivers.

Two 17 year old boys have had their drivers licenses yanked for the next 15 days after they were caught street racing on the Pat Bay Highway this morning.
Saanich RCMP say a Chevy pickup and Cobalt Coupe were clocked doing in excess of 150 kilometres an hour in an 80 kilometre an hour construction zone.
The pair were driving side by side at that speed and were pulled over at the next traffic light.
Both are also being charged with excessive speed, had their vehicles seized, and will have to appear before a judge.

SURREY/CKNW(AM980)
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is looking for a dark-coloured car seen fleeing the scene of Metro Vancouver's latest murder.
IHIT Cpl. Dale Carr says two young men were sitting in a parked car near 124th Street and Boundary Drive South in Surrey around 12:30pm Wednesday afternoon when a dark-coloured vehicle pulled up and opened fire on the pair.
The young driver fled and drove his injured friend to Surrey Memorial Hospital.
He was later taken to Royal Columbian Hospital, where he died.
Carr says the victim is a 17-year old from Surrey, "What we're looking for is anybody that lives in the neighbourhood to give us a call, that saw anything that was out of the ordinary. Maybe a vehicle sitting parked, waiting for a period of time right around the lunch period. Anything that was out of the ordinary will be of help."
Carr says this appears to be a targeted attack.
Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

A legal setback today in BC's highest court for one of the Bacon brothers and two associates.
The BC Court of Appeal has overturned 15 acquittals on gun and drug charges for Jonathan Bacon, Godwin Cheng and Raylene Burton.
The charges stem from a 2005 search of an Abbotsford townhome Bacon shared with Burton.
In the townhome, police found body armour, drugs, two silencers and four guns.
They also found 88-thousand dollars in Burton's vehicle.
The original trial judge threw out the search warrant and called the arrest of the trio unlawful.
But in a unanimous decision, the court of appeal has ordered a new trial.

An overloaded electrical circuit is being blamed for an early morning house fire that claimed the life of a 72 year old man.
Crews were called to the fire at East 23rd and Carolina at 3:40 a-m.
The elderly homeowner was found in the basement and he was trying to put out the fire but was overcome.
His 47 year old son tried to save him, but couldn't get through all the clutter in the basement.
Captain Gabe Roder with the Vancouver Fire Department says the clutter in the basement hindered the man's ability to get out of the house.
He says the fire started because of an overloaded electrical circuit and a faulty extension cord.
The victim of this morning's fatal house fire is a well-known Vancouverite with a unique trade.
Anyone driving along Kingsway near Boundary has probably seen Steve Kulash's taxidermy shop.
It's been there for about 40 years and the 72 year old who wanted to be a vet learned the trade by correspondance.
Kulash's storied shop would do everything from birds to bears.
On the more unusual side, they've done a stuffed walrus for a Japanese museum and provided a pair of stuffed lions ...

It appears the Winter Olympics have helped provide a popularity boost to that oh-so Canadian sport of...curling.
Canada's men took gold while our women won silver, and our Paralympic team will play for a medal starting Saturday.
Scott Braley with Curl BC says the Olympics have helped boost interest, "However, the curling season usually wraps up the end of March, mid-April at most of the clubs. So, the challenge will be to capture this interest again in September and October. But, we're hearing a lot of interest, not just in Canada but in other countries like the United States, and so on."
Braley says he's heard of a 64-member curling club in Dallas, Texas that held an open house right after the Olympics and 250 people showed up. 500 people showed up the next weekend.

Vancouver's Mayor says a dedicated volunteer team could be one legacy of the Winter Olympics.
Gregor Robertson says after so many volunteers stepped up during the Games, he wants staff to look at the same thing for the City, "We want to be able to engage and use this team for future big events, for maybe emergency preparedness too and other possible volunteer opportunities of the City."
Robertson says the team could be deployed to events like the Celebration of Light fireworks.

With the Vancouver Winter Olympics now over, people hoping to cash in on the Games are making their pitches online, and trying to appeal to those who want a piece of the Olympic Flame.
If you believe sellers on Craigslist, you too can have that flame, even though you're really not supposed to.
At least 25 postings offer authentic Olympic Torches for sale, some reportedly used during the relay, others still in their original packaging. Prices range from 700 dollars to a cool 1300.
Several ads claim their torch, since it was never used, can be lit.
One poster says their torch, an unused spare, is, "fully functional."
The fuel is a blend of propane, isobutane and hydrocarbons.
Here's the kicker: a cartridge is required.
