Fire crews in Mission have managed to extingush a morning blaze at an elementary school, they consider suspicious.

Fire Chief Ian Fitzpatrick says crews were called out to E-S Richards School just after 6am, and when they arrived they saw flames shooting from the roof.

"We're able to quickly get up on the roof and find that the fire was confined to the roof area, it actually hadn't gotten into the inside of the school, so we were able to extinguish it quite quickly."

Luckily, damage was kept to a minimum.

Both the Mission RCMP and fire departments are investigating.
