Mounties in Whistler are trying to recover the body of a 26-year-old who jumped off a cliff into Anderson Lake yesterday.

Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair says the Surrey man had been boating in the area and had climbed up a cliff to jump in, which he has done regularly in other spots.

"Several of his companions dove into the water from nearby boats in an attempt to locate him and they were unable to do so."

A police helicopter and search and rescue crews tried to find him until dark last night, and then picked up again this morning without luck.

The RCMP’s underwater recovery team will resume the effort tomorrow.

His family has been notified, but his name has not been released.
