The federal Liberals are accusing the Harper government of 'fixing' environmental processes to get the results they want.

Liberal MP, and former leader, Stephane Dion says when it comes to the hearings into the Northern Gateway oil pipeline, the result will be one the Harper government desired.

"So he is saying we will have an environmental assessment but he is putting out of jobs so many scientists he dismantled almost completely the environmental agency in Canada he gave a lot of powers to the office of the energy, national energy office, but they don't have any expertise especially not in the ocean its not their job."

Dion says the Harper Conservatives have meddled with environmental assessment processes.

"And it is not enough for Harper he decided now that the National Energy Board should lose its power in the hands of the minister so the environmental agency has been weakened, NEB has been weaked and now he is giving it to a minister to decide and the cabinet to decide at the end of the day."

Dion was asked directly if the fix is in with the hearings into the Northern Gateway pipeline.

"Yes, yes, yes they want to do that and they make sure that the rules will come with a conclusion that they like."

He says each proposal should be fairly judged on its economic and environmental merits.
