The BC SPCA is investigating, after passersby found a badly hurt German shepherd in a dumpster Wednesday morning in Kitsilano.

Marcie Moriarty, general manager of cruelty investigations, says two people called to report they found the dog in the 14-hundred block of Maple Street, near Cornwall Avenue.

Constables arrived to find the two-year-old canine barely conscious in the container wrapped in a bloody blanket.

"We immediately took the dog to a veterinary emergency clinic. I'm happy to state right now he's receiving treatment and pain medication."

Moriarty says the dog was covered in cuts and bruises to his face and neck, apparently sustained in the past 24 hours.

She adds authorities have contacted the owner, but it’s too early to say whether any charges could be laid.
