A toddler is dead and a woman in critical unstable condition in intensive care after being pulled from a pool in Surrey Sunday night.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Murray Hedderson says mounties were called shortly after 9:00 PM about a possible drowning at a residential complex in the area of 105th Avenue and 150th Street.

CPR was already being performed on the woman and child.

They'd been found by someone who lives at the complex, floating unresponsive.

"Both were transported to hospital by ambulance.  The young child, despite the best efforts of the hospital staff, was unable to be revived."

Hedderson says the woman and child were related.

He says foul play is not suspected, and it all appears to be a tragic accident.

The names and ages of the woman and child are not being released.
