People on Barnston Island are the latest to be told to be ready to leave in the event of flooding from the Fraser River.

The evacuation alert went out at eight o' clock this morning and sandbags are being readied.

Metro Vancouver staff are monitoring river levels and patrolling dikes around the island.

At noon today, access to Barnston Island will be restricted to people who live there, businesses and those having a business or family reason for going onto the island.

Metro Vancouver’s park on the island and other areas on the island will also be closed to the general public.
