Updates: Latest on Fraser River flood threat
VICTORIA/CKNW (AM980)

While river levels have peaked in Prince George, they're rising downriver, and heavy rains are forecast for this weekend.

The Fraser River is expected to peak at the Mission gauge on Friday at 6.5 meters, well within the capacity of local dikes.

But Chris Duffy with Emergency Management BC says the fast flowing river can still pose a threat.

"Obviously not a safe situation to have people or families or pets in and around waters, avoid these waterways, resist the temptation to get around and have a look at the dikes and what not, it's just not a great idea, keep your family and yourself safe."

And Environment Canada says rains are moving back in this weekend, with 10 to 20 millimeters forecast for the Lower Mainland, and 30 to 60 millimeters in the interior.

That could mean more flood threats next week.
