A deputy Vancouver fire chief says the department is still not in the loop over cuts to local coast guard services.

"It's a waiting game for us right now.  We don't know if and how this is going to affect us."

Mark Engler says calls to the coast guard seeking clarity have not been returned.

He admits it's frustrating.

"We do have to plan ahead and we do have to try to understand the services. We do know the services the coast guard offers, it's for our citizens of Vancouver. We really would like to know how this could affect our citizens."

On Friday, Conservative cabinet minister James Moore made this statement:

"We did a great deal of consultation before we made any of our budgetary decisions."

Since then, several groups and mayors have come forward to say there was no consulation.
