Vancouver police are appealing to the public for information after a senior was left severely disabled and confined to a wheelchair.

The 67-year-old man was found lying unconscious last November and badly injured in an alley on the Downtown Eastside.

Police say his injuries appear to be consistent with a fall from a significant height, possibly the fire escape under which he was found.

Now, Const. Jana McGuiness says police have discovered that someone has accessed the man's bank account and purchased thousands of dollars of goods in the Downtown Eastside.

"Was he robbed after he fell and lay there very injured, or is there another motive to this? We're not sure."

Police haven't been able to speak with the victim because of his injuries.
