Updated: The BC Coroners Service has identified the woman who died after falling from a hang glider near Agassiz yesterday afternoon as Lenami Dafne Godinez.
Officials say it was the 27-year-old Vancouver resident’s first time hang gliding. But as she and a pilot launched off Mount Woodside, something went wrong and fell hundreds of metres to the ground below.
Coroner Barb McLintock has plenty of questions.
"What systems were in place for this kind of commercial type tandem hang gliding operation that should've prevented anything from going wrong, and how did those systems go wrong, if they did. And then, obviously, this is a case where we're going to be thinking at least about whether there are any recommendations that we could make."
The hang gliding trip had been an anniversary gift from the woman's boyfriend.
