Falcon on ICBC
VANCOUVER/CKNW(980)

Finance minister Kevin Falcon says it's important not to "overreact" to a strike vote by workers at ICBC

But Falcon is backing the corporation's push to have some work declared an essential service.

"Well of course it is, there's no question that having to renew your insurance is an essential service, and so the levels have to be determined, obviously not everyone that works for ICBC is essential so that's why the labour relations board has a process where you have to go and determine which of the employees are indeed essential."

Falcon won't comment on the workers' complaints that managers have enjoyed big bonuses while their wages have stagnated, calling that part of the "posturing" that takes place during a labour dispute.
