Victim of sawmill blast identified
VANCOUVER/CKNW AM 980

4/24/2012

The BC Coroners' Service has identified the man killed in last night's sawmill explosion in Prince George.

43-year old Alan Little was a shift supervisor at the Lakeland mill.

10 of his colleagues remain in hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Meantime, Worksafe BC has issued an immediate order for safety inspections of all sawmills in BC.

Worksafe's Roberta Ellis wants mill operators to focus on combustible dust and dust accumulation.

Ellis is asked why this wasn't done after a similar explosion in Burns Lake in January.

"........at that point in time, Worksafe BC officers also visited sawmills in the province, working under similar circumstances to address similiar issues.  With the explosion of another sawmill, we are taking this next step and we are asking all sawmills to address these issues."

Sawdust appears to be a common factor in both the Prince George explosion and the blast in Burns Lake.
