Neither Vancouver Police officer involved in the fatal March, 2009 shooting of a schizophrenic homeless man had training in the use of taser guns.

That revelation today, at a Coroner's Inquest into Vann Hubbard's death.

58-year old Michael Vann Hubbard was shot once after coming at officers with a small utility knife.

The officers had stopped him as they searched for a stolen backpack -- a backpack Vann Hubbard ultimately didn't have.

Pivot Legal Society Lawyer Doug King, representing Vann Hubbard's family, says the shooting speaks to a greater issue of police dealing with the mentally ill.

In her testimony, Constable Celia Tisdall claims Vann Hubbard had "crazy eyes" -- and his mental illness was obvious.
