Metrolinx Being Taken to Court
Toronto/Am640 News

8/8/2012

A group of west-end Toronto citizens is taking Metrolinx to court over their plans to run diesel trains to Pearson airport.

The group is called the Clean Train Coalition (CTC) and is trying to kill the plan to have the express train service in place in time for the 2015 Pan Am Games.

The lawsuit asks the court to kill the plan in part because the 2015 deadline was arbitrarily imposed by the province.

The CTC is expected to speak about the legal action at a news conference at 11 a.m. This morning.

The projects 2015 deadline could be in jeopardy if the CTC succeeds in delaying Metrolinx in court.

Metrolinx planned to buy 12 clean diesel trains at a cost of $53 million with plans to convert them to electric for $1 million each.
