Councillors on the government management committee will vote next week on a recommendation from city staff double the parking ticket grace period to 10 minutes.
The move is to try and reduce court costs by allowing drivers to have tickets cancelled when they’re within 10 minutes of their pay-and-display parking expiration time.
When these tickets are fought in court the drivers usually end up with a minimal fine or the ticket is thrown out.
The grace period wouldn’t apply to those parking illegally during rush hour and on major roads.
