With more riders than ever expected to catch a ride on the Red Rocket, TTC officials say easing the crunch can occur with a new line.
As the TYSSE pushes north into York Region, both TTC Chair Karen Stintz, and CEO Andy Byford commented on the proposed Downtown Relief Line, calling it a 'big priority'.
The line, originally planned in the 1980's, would start somewhere along the Danforth or north, and swing south through the Port Land and into the core via the rail lines, Queen or King Streets.
Metrolinx has called for the DRL to be in their 25 year plan, however with overcrowding now visible on the Yonge Line, the need for 'relief' may have to come sooner rather than later.
