The $2.6 billion project to link York Region with Toronto by subway has taken another giant leap forward.
At a groundbreaking ceremony today, officials unveiled the newly built twin tunnels that will eventually connect the future Sheppard West and Finch West stations.
The two stations, are part of a multi-year extension of the Spadina Subway line, from Downsview Station to the proposed Vaughan Corporate Centre.
The project is targeted for completion by the end of 2015.
Costs have been chipped in by all three levels of government; $697 million from Ottawa, Ontario is providing $870 million and Toronto is budgeting $526 million, with York Region contributing $352 million.
