Even though the deadline is considered aggressive, the province's transit agency is downplaying a call from the TTC that the Eglinton Crosstown won't be ready on time.
The $8.4 billion project is set to be up and running by 2020, however a staff report suggests a 2022-23 date is more likely given the amount of work that needs to be done.
Metrolinx says the biggest challenge will be the underground stations, however the use of decking boards over top will allow for work to progress below the surface, while surface traffic is able to move.
According to Metrolinx, each station may take two years to finish, but a number will be worked on at the same time.
Tunnels for the underground section will be built between this fall, and 2015.
