A serial car thief has been handed a stiff sentence of life in prison for racing throught the streets of Toronto ending in a fatal crash.
43 year old Clifford Smith was on the run from police on February 15 2010 when he ran a red light and crashed the Dodge Caravan he was in killing the 26 year old driver of the other vehicle, Mahboba Attayee.
The crash also injured 5 other passengers including the victim's niece and sister.
Clifford Smith had amassed 193 convictions in over two decades and Justice called Smith a serial criminal who is a threat to society.
The judge's decision set a precedent as he was given a life sentence for criminal negligence causing death with no chance for parole for 10 years.
