Councillors Could Add $6.5 Million To Police Sick Bank Fund
Toronto/AM640 News

5/7/2012

City officials will ask councillors to use about $6.5 million from the $292 million budget surplus to top up the sick bank fund for Toronto's police officers.

The city already eliminated the perk for other municipal workers after the 2009 strike.

The fund pays up to nine months salary to retiring officers with 35 years of service who have banked enough sick days.

The payouts have averaged $10.7 million a year over the last five years. The fund is down to $12.4 million from $59 million in 2007 and $81 million in 2004.
