A group in Oshawa has begun lobbying the provincial government to boost the maximum limit on 400 highways by 30 km/h.
Stop100.ca wants all 400 series highways in metropolitan areas to be increased to 120 km/h and wants the 407 and the express lanes on the 401 increased to 130 km/h.
They also want the limit raised to 130 km/h on all 400 series highways outside metropolitan areas.
They suggest enforcement attention could be shifted to lane discipline instead of speeders.
Ontario transportation ministry spokesman Bob Nichols said the province currently has no interest in changing speed limits as in 2008, speed contributed to 21% of fatalities and 12% of all injuries sustained in crashes in Ontario.
