The sentencing hearing for B.C. child abductor Randall Hopley is expected to wrap up today in Cranbrook. Hopley earlier pleaded guilty to taking 3 year old Kienan Hebert from his Sparwood home last fall. Court heard a video confession yesterday where Hopley told police he had initially considered taking Kienan's older brother, but saw a photo that indicated he had received heart surgery, and was worried abducting him could kill him. Hopley left the home and then came back an hour later and took Kienan. The boy was returned four days later, unharmed.
The crown is going to ask for an assessment of Hopley and may be asking he be declared a dangerous or long term offender.
