Calgary alderman says a charge for river rescues should be discussed by city council

A Calgary alderman whose ward includes the Harvie Passage says city council should discuss who should be paying for river rescues.  A man died when his raft overturned at the Harvie Passage yesterday afternoon.

Despite numerous advisories from the fire dept. to stay away from the river, people are still taking chances. Ward 9 alderman Gian-Carlo Carra questions whether taxpayers dollars should be spent on their rescue.

Carra says while the Harvie Passage makes the river safer, it actually raises the risk because more inexperienced people are now using it.
