Ralph Klein's family has confirmed that the former Calgary mayor and Alberta Premier has been bestowed with the Order of Canada. In a statement, Klein's wife Colleen says they are honoured and grateful to the Government of Canada. Family friend and strategist Rod Love says its an acknowledgement of Klein's 26 years of service and contributions to the people of Calgary, the province, and the country.
Members of the family visited with Ralph earlier this week and told him he was being awarded the Order of Canada. They said while words are difficult for him, "his face brightened, and he smiled". The investiture ceremony will take place in September in Ottawa - family members will attend on Klein's behalf.
