The Alberta Liberals are calling on the provincial government to look at new revenue sources, as the price of oil continues to nose-dive. They admit it's probably not the most popular thought. But during the election campaign, Liberal Leader Raj Sherman called for a progressive tax system, where those making more than $100-thousand/year would be taxed more. He also wants the government to look at a two-point increase in the corporate tax rate and putting a levy on actual carbon emissions instead of intensity. Because that oil revenue isn't going to last forever. He says they gambled by thinking the $100/barrel price of oil would stay and instead it now sits at $80/barrel. Sherman says the plan wouldn't affect nine out of ten Albertans and it's time the province had a good discussion about it.
