The idea of pensions for Alberta MLAs has been put on the backburner for the time being. The legislature's member services committee has rejected a proposal for a defined benefit pension, described by some as a "gold-plated" plan. Instead, a decision won't be made until the fall. Liberal leader Raj Sherman walked out of the meeting after the committee rejected a motion to have an independent review set up the pension plan. A committee will look at their options instead. A vote could happen as early as late-September.
