Man found guilty of manslaughter in death of girlfriend's daughter

A man accused of manslaughter in the August 2007 death of his girlfriend's daughter has been guilty as charged.  Court heard Daniel Berge left Amilia Matwiy for just a few moments in a crib, coming back to find the four-month-old unresponsive on her belly.  He shook her trying to get her to respond, to which she finally did.  But a few days later, she died in Children's Hospital.  The judge believes Berge didn't mean to cause her harm, but by not taking her to see a doctor, he's guilty of manslaughter by way of "failing to provide the necessities of life".  An emotional verdict for Berge, the girl's mother and families of both, who were all in the courtroom.  Defense lawyer Allan Fay says his client is going to jail "for a significant amount of time" and it's disappointing to many, as no one "wins" in this situation.  A sentencing date could be set as early as Friday.
