The value of Calgary's building permit applications for the month of May is up 95% from the same month last year. The estimated value comes in at $534-million, which brings the year-to-date total to $2.1-billion. The city's Acting Manager of Building Regulations Cliff de Jong says there's an optimistic tone in his department. de Jong says the growth was almost all across the board, with no one single project or sector really skewing the numbers. He adds it will also be a busy time for building inspectors in the coming months as these permits turn into shovels in the ground.
