Canadians can now buy and bring home more goods on trips to the U.S. Duty free limits have been raised under new rules which came into effect today.
Minister of State for Finance, Ted Menzies, says the changes reflect the reality of what's happening, "While we want Canadians to shop in Canada and support our economy, we also acknowledge families do take vacations abroad. Our goal is to make their travel and their vacations more efficient and more reflective of today's realities."
Menzies says while the exemptions are being increased, the government has been helping Canadian retailers better compete by reducing a number of tariffs in recent years.
