City police are taking note after an uptick in the number of break-and-enters as of late.
Officials say those numbers could increase even more with summer just around the corner.
May long weekend is seen as that first "getaway" weekend of the year.
Acting Sergeant Stu Simpson is hopeful everyone is taking the proper precautions before taking off.
Calgary has seen an 11% increase in the number of break-ins in the first quarter of 2012 compared to first quarter of 2011
Simpson is offering a few pieces of advice, the biggest being getting to know your neighbors.
He says they can pick up your mail and keep tabs on your house.
Simpson also stands by the "3 And 7 Rule" saying hedges should be no taller than three feet, while spruce tree branches should be cut no lower than seven feet above ground.
