A ten-day activation of the Calgary Municipal Emergency Plan surrounding a fire at a recycling plant is over.
The M-E-P was deactivated just after 1 o'clock this morning when fire crews finally extinguished the stubborn blaze at Calgary Metal Recycling on Ogden Road SE. Four businesses were evacuated yesterday due to smoke and ash being blown directly into the establishments.
Ogden Road and all businesses in the area between Bonnybrook Road and 38th Avenue will be allowed to re-open this morning. During the ten days the emergency plan was in effect, crews moved 80 thousand cubic meters of material in order to reach the seat of the fire. Air quality monitoring was continuous.
Clean-up work is expected to continue for several days.
