With the first anniversary of the devastating wildfire less than a week away, the Town of Slave Lake is kicking off a month long series of special events.
Next Tuesday, the 15th, it will be exactly a year since a deliberately set forest fire roared into Slave Lake. Beginning Thursday the Slave Lake Tri Council kicks off barbecue block parties in various neighbourhoods. The theme of the anniversary events in Slave Lake is "One Year Stronger". A two day wellness conference starts tomorrow and people will gather for a community banquet Friday. The actual first anniversary of the Slave Lake inferno will be marked by a media event on Tuesday.
RCMP report no developments in their hunt for the person who deliberately started the fire that caused damage estimated at three quarters of a billion dollars.
