A strange twist in the case against a Calgary woman who is facing a second trial in the death of her daughter. Defense lawyer Alain Hepner says his client, Aset Magomadova, has been diagnosed with advanced cervical cancer. He says the month long second degree murder trial, which was scheduled to start May 22nd, will interfere with her eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy. Magomadova was charged after the February 2007 strangling death of her 14-year-old daughter Aminat. She was later convicted of manslaughter, but the Court of Appeal granted a re-trial last May. The case has now been postponed, but a new date hasn't been set at this time. The Crown says they would like to see the new trial begin as soon as possible.
