As expected, Calgary-based TransCanada has filed a new application seeking a Presidential permit for a revised Keystone XL pipeline.
Trans anada is requesting permission to proceed with the pipeline from the Canada / US border to Steele City, Nebraska. A re-jigging that will keep the Keystone XL away from environmentally sensitive sand hills in Nebraska will be added to the application once a final revised route is determined.
TransCanada CEO Russ Girling says the pipeline that will carry Alberta oil sands crude to refineries in Oklahoma and Texas will create thousands of jobs and reduce the US dependence on foreign oil. Girling also defends the new application saying: "It was the most comprehensive process ever for a cross-border pipeline and that work should allow our permit to be processed expeditiously and a decision made once a new route in Nebraska is determined."
