Calgary energy company Talisman is facing more criticism from a group of indigenous people in Peru where the company has been drilling exploratory wells. Representatives of the Achuar who live on both sides of the Peru-Ecuador border have made several trips to Calgary. They're calling on the company to pull out of an area they say is an important hunting and fishing grounds. San Francisco based Amazon Watch has facilitated the visits to Calgary. Spokesman Gregor Maclennan translating for the Achuar says they don't believe the company's claims that new technologies can limit any potential damage. "But we and our elders have seen in our visions and our dreams what can happen. Human technology always fails and when it fails, it's difficult to recuperate." The Achuar dispute Talisman's claims that they have approval from more than 40 different groups of people for their work in Peru.
